Unit 7
In Unit 5, I wrote how I involve the youth’s participation in the youth club called KKBT. My initial motive in involving the youth’s participation is to help with the organisation and implementation of youth programmes organised by the department. By appointing them as the working committees will help the few staffs that are burdened with the work.
During the organisation ‘Beach Soccer Programme’ last few years, I need helping hands in organising the programme. At the office, there are only less than ten of us to handle the big event. It was good that I had set up the club earlier to gather the youth at the Tutong District and helping me with the programme organisation. After having a meeting with the staffs to analyse the working paper on Beach Soccer Programme, and decisions have been made on the venue, date and working committees for the programme, then I call up the youth for a meeting. I chair the meeting and explain the programme first as an introduction. Next I appoint the youth as part of the working committees and give them tasks accordingly to their appointed position.
All the work must be done at the office to enable the youth using the facilities like computers and photocopy machines. It is also to enable the youth to ask me if they have any query regarding on the tasks given. Communication will be easier if we work under one roof. Apart from being appointed as the working committees, I gave the chance for the youth to voice out their suggestions or recommendations for the programme. Since they are part of the committees, I want them to feel that the programme belongs to them (create self-belonging amongst the youth).
Once they are given the tasks, they will work it out. For example, the refreshments coordinators are given the authority to set up the menu for the refreshments. However, I analyse that they are still blur on how to do their tasks. So, explaining to them and ask them to do it by themselves will let them learning through experiencing it. All the tasks are given with the time frame so every task must be done within the time limit. On the day of event, everything seems go well because the youth working committees already aware what they must do. I don’t have to ask and remind them again what they should do on that day. For example, the team coordinators know that they must make sure all the team participants for the soccer have register upon their arrival. The refreshments coordinators must ensure that the refreshments are ready by the caterer. The ‘Bell Boys’ must take their position a few minutes before the games start. I assumed and satisfied the programme goes well as organised. Everyone is committed and work together for the success of the programme.
At the end of the programme, each of the team participants is given an evaluation form to evaluate the progress of the programme. The evaluation results will help me to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of the programme and able to improve the quality of the implementation in the future.

Unit6,
(11) Beliefs is like philosophy that one person holds on to keep on learning. For example, i believe that I can be succeeded given that I put all my efforts on learning. Remember the song “I believe I can fly”… Everyone can do it (Nike)!
(12) In learning, there are the controls and regulations. You have to control what you learn; you learn what is useful and fruitful only. The regulation in learning is such as you need enough food and sleep so that you are able to concentrate on what you are learning.
(13) Perceptions - one’s opinions and views on something. For example, my perception on Brunei society is the Bruneians are polite. Attitudes - the way one behaves and acts. For example, Bruneians greet and shake hands when meeting their friends.

UNIT 4 (continuation)
How do you meet the needs of different learners?
‘Different people have different needs and wants’. Same thing goes to different learners will have different needs in their study. Based on my experience taking Diploma class, eventhough the students in the class are taking same subjects but we have different ways and formats of learning. When we are divided into groups for group’s presentation, we have different ideas and creativeness. Therefore, to ensure that all the ideas are presented well, we have discussion on our ideas, we talk and share what we understand on the topic given. This is one way that I can understand and know what are the needs of my colleagues.
UNIT 4 (continuation)
Describe how you could create better relationship with learners so that they can learn better.
Again, based on my experience taking Diploma, study can be stressful. My observation on my colleagues (and myself), we get a bit stress if given assignments and nervous if asked to do the public speaking. Therefore, to loosen the tense amongst us, I like to make jokes and chat with my colleagues. At least, through the jokes and the chit chat, we can throw out our stressness. At the same time, we can build up our relationship. Through this chit chat also, we can understand each other and learn better.
How do the following factors affect learnings - motivation and needs of learners, emotional factors such as anxiety and fear, beliefs and attitudes, learning styles?
There are many factors that can affect learnings. Motivation such as awards, or accreditation will motivate the students to continue their study. A good career is also as a motivator for the students to further their study. It is important for the teachers to fullfil the needs of the learners such as providing reading materials and facilities eg computer, printer, paper etc to make learning easier. However, like this Diploma class, it is still a question whether the Diploma will be accreditated and we will get the Diploma or not. The emotional feeling somehow has affect our mood in taking this diploma - whether to carry on or to stop. The learning stlye is also a factor that may affect the learning. In this Learning Processes Module, I like this blog being created by Dr Leong. He is flexible and understand our condition as government servant, we also have other job responsibilities to do. This learning stlye has save me from pending assignments and somehow it gives me theopportunity to know and share what are the comments from my colleagues.

(1) Different people have different styles of learning. Some people can learn in a noisy place with radio switches on and some prefer to study at quiet place. Some can learn with limited reading materials but some need details information to study. For me, learning does not necessarily need sufficient reading materials to pass the tests and exams. I can use what reading materials are given and what’s around me. I can surf the internet to find more information. For example, as my preparation to represent Brunei to conference in Japan on Poverty and Youth Inclusion, I don’t wait detailed information from the organiser. There are many ways I can understand the topic. One easiest way is by surfing the internet. Another way is by asking my colleagues, friends and families. From here, I learn something important – don’t wait for the times to fly by. If you have the time, just do it. Another thing I learn informally is the existence of poverty in Brunei and related agencies responsible in combating the poverty.
(2) Working with different needs of youth require me to use different styles in facing them. In Unit 5, I have expressed my experience in KKBT. In KKBT, there are youth who are fast learners; some are slow learners; some needs guidelines and details; and some can work in less supervision. To work with them, for example, in organising youth programmes, I delegate the tasks accordingly to their capabilities. Beside that, I have practice different styles of learning eg observation, practical, teamwork etc. For the beginners, I ask them to learn through observing their colleagues who have more experience than them. After the observation, they will learn through practical and gain experience. It is okay with me if they make mistakes at the first place as it is normal for the beginners. Working in a team will inspire spirit of teamwork among the youth members. They can ask or query amongst themselves or ask me. It is good to use different styles because learning is not limited to one style only.

(3) This question requires me to ask others regarding on the brain dominances; what is the function to use left brain dominance and vice versa. I was forcing myself to call specialists at RIPAS and my former teachers just to get the answers to the questions. I am thinking myself which brain dominance I use more. However, after answering this question, I just realise that I am using both brain dominances based on the situation and environment. I am a right handed but it does not really indicate me that I am using my left brain more. I can be analytical learner (left brain) because I love to play with numbers and I am good with words when it come to drafting letters or speeches. I love reading newspapers or any sort of magazines just to know new words. I am organised person; I like to do things step by step (sequentially) and systematically. When conducting a project, a checklist is important for me to list out things to do. At other time, I can show right brain dominance because I like to view things globally. I like to use facts and personal experience in my presentation or speeches.
Some of my personality traits are feeling shy when talking in front of the public; lack of self-confidence (sometimes) especially when ask to do things at my first time etc. In term of my sensory modes, auditory and visual is helpful. I need the sounds and pictures to produce better result of learning. People may have multiple intelligences in different aspects. As for me, I can say that I am good in observation – I can detect/judge things through observation only. I am good in managing a group of youth. For me learning is a ‘give and take’ process. I am teaching the youth but I also learn something from them.
hi everyone...
Learning proses juga mengajar kita untuk berfikir lebih meluas dan kritikan[deep and deeper] as we asked to do here in CYP programme.
